COPA Airlines (Compañia Panameña de Aviación), subsidiary of Copa Holdings, SA, and member of the global airline network Star Alliance, began its direct flights to the cities of Georgetown (Guyana) and Fort Lauderdale, Florida (USA), from its Hub of the Americas International Airport Tocumen on July 11, 2014, connecting with their services along the American continent.
About these inaugural flights, Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines said, “We are excited about the launching of these new destinations. With our flight to Georgetown we expect to drive a lot of opportunities for business and tourism in Guyana, which will be connected like never before with all of Latin America and the Caribbean; and the flight from Fort Lauderdale furthers expands travel opportunities for business travelers, tourists and families to Panama and other destinations in Latin America. ”
Fort Lauderdale now becomes the tenth Copa Airlines destination in the United States, and fourth in the state of Florida. While with the addition of Georgetown, Guyana Copa Airlines now flies to 30 countries in the Americas. These new flights will increase connectivity to 67 destinations for business and leisure throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
The inauguration of the new flight to Georgetown, Guyana to efficiently connect with the rest of Europe, is also charged with a strong emotional content. With this flight, the dream of the late Captain Krish Persaud of Guyana comes true to unite, with a direct flight to Panama, to the South American country. Captain Persaud trained a large number of pilots who work today on Copa Airlines, becoming one of the instructors with more flying in the world.
“Thanks to the work undertaken by Captain Persaud in Panama, today we have a team of professional, experienced pilots, many of whom are fundamental to the world class service that we strive every day to provide all our passengers. As a tribute to their work pro aviation Panama, we decided to dedicate this first flight to his name “said Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines.
